United Way of Wapello County Benson Scholarship

The United Way of Wapello County Benson Scholarship was made possible by George Benson's generous support of United Way and our endowment fund. Each year, a volunteer committee selects scholarship recipients based on their commitment to advancing United Way's mission: improving education, financial stability, and health in Wapello County. 

General Information

  • Scholarship(s) of up to $2,500 will be awarded annually. 
  • Applications will be accepted through April 1, 2020.
  • Students may be awarded funds a maximum of four times. 

Eligibility 

  • Must live or attend school in Wapello County. 
  • Must demonstrate alignment of current or future endeavors to the United Way mission (as stated in the submitted essay).
  • A background check will be performed prior to funds being awarded

United Way of Wapello County reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to review the conditions and procedures of this application, and to modify scholarship criteria and dollar amounts at any time.

If awarded, scholarship funds are paid directly to the student college of choice. 
Please be aware that scholarship awards may affect your financial aid as they are automatically calculated into a student's financial aid package. A student's financial aid package is based on the cost of attendance which includes not only tuition, but also such costs as books, fees. Scholarships are only available for the academic year they are awarded unless otherwise indicated.

Finalists are required to submit:
  • Transcript(s) reflecting enrollment and GPA submitted. 
  • Background check release form.
  • Student ID number.
