United Way of Wapello County Achieves Service Enterprise Certification

United Way of Wapello County has been nationally certified as a Service Enterprise.

A Service Enterprise is defined as an organization that fundamentally leverages volunteers and their skills across all levels of the organization to successfully deliver on its social mission.+

Research conducted by the TCC Group, a national program and evaluation firm, found that organizations operating as Service Enterprises outperform peer organizations on all aspects of organizational effectiveness, and are more adaptable, sustainable and capable of scaling their work.

To achieve this certification, United Way of Wapello County completed an in-depth organizational assessment, over 20 hours of training and consulting and extensive internal planning and change to better integrate volunteers in our daily operations.

As a result of this process, United Way has added new and exciting volunteer positions within our organization including new committees and project leader positions. Interested volunteers can find those volunteer opportunities by clicking “volunteer”.

The Service Enterprise Initiative is led nationally by Points of Light and statewide by the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service. The Initiative is taking hold in Iowa. We are now third in the nation in number of certified Service Enterprise organizations.

Organizations interested in becoming more effective by fully integrating skilled volunteers into their work can apply now. United Way of Wapello County is working with the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service to provide this training in Southeast Iowa. Participating organizations will receive in-person training, coaching and consulting, and volunteer management resources. They can expect a 300-600% return on investment for every dollar they invest in their volunteer programs. To apply, click here.
