RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) connects adults aged 55 and above with meaningful, flexible volunteer opportunities that match their interests, availability, and life experiences. Whether you want to share skills you’ve spent a lifetime developing or explore something new, RSVP can help you find the right fit—on your terms.
Who Can Volunteer?
RSVP is open to anyone 55 years of age or older living in or near Monroe, Wapello, or Jefferson Counties.

What Do RSVP Volunteers Do?
RSVP volunteers serve with local nonprofits, schools, hospitals, and other community-based organizations. Common assignments include:

Mentoring or tutoring students

Assisting food pantries or meal programs

Supporting veterans and military families

Assisting with community health outreach

Supporting disaster preparedness and response efforts

Providing office support for nonprofits and public agencies

Already volunteering somewhere? Let us know—we may be able to enroll you as an RSVP volunteer at your current site.

New to volunteering? We'll work with you to match your interests, skills, and availability to a local volunteer opportunity.

Once placed, you’ll receive orientation and ongoing support as you begin your service.
Our Story
RSVP is one of the largest volunteer networks in the nation for people 55 and older. Launched in 1971, the program now engages over 300,000 Americans each year. Nationally, RSVP is a program of AmeriCorps Seniors, funded by AmeriCorps (formerly CNCS). The United Way of Wapello County proudly sponsors RSVP of Monroe, Wapello, and Jefferson Counties, with support from Volunteer Iowa.
