Am I Eligible for Free Tax Services Through VITA?

You may qualify for free tax preparation if you meet any of the following criteria:

  • Your household income was $62,000 or less in the previous year

  • You are a veteran

  • You are age 65 or older

  • You are a non-English speaker (translation services are available)

Additional eligibility details will be discussed during your appointment scheduling.

Do I need to file a tax return?

Yes, especially if you're 25 or older — you may be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit, even with low income. Filing may also refund withheld taxes.

Do I need to prove I had health insurance?

No. Starting in 2019, proof of health insurance is no longer required on federal tax returns.

When will I get my refund?

Most refunds are issued within 21 days if filed electronically and with direct deposit. Paper checks and postal delivery may cause delays.

Should I wait to file if I owe taxes?

No. File now to avoid penalties. You can wait to pay until April 15.

Can I get help with prior year or amended returns?

Yes. Just let us know when scheduling your appointment, and bring any relevant documents.
