The State of Girls in Iowa

Today's girls are destined to lead tomorrow's boardrooms and courthouses and run our hospitals and technology start-ups. But a cycle of discouragement is stopping girls from moving forward. They're backing down from their aspirations. They're oting out from activites they once loved. They're even shying away from raising their hands in class.

December DOVIA Meeting

This month DOVIA will be presenting a special holiday session. December's session will include a learning topic, lunch, door prizes, and presentation of Certificates in Volunteer Management to two of our members.

The learning topic will be Event Management. Marie Zoromski will present steps to plan a sucessful event, and will talk about return on investment for events.

File your Iowa Taxes and help a child.

Keeping children sage from abuse is everyone's business, and now there is a very simple but important way for you to help. Wehn you file your Iowa tax return, check off child abuse by donating a portion of your refund to the Iowa Child Abuse Prevention Program.

Fall Into Fitness 5K Run/Walk

Cargill Incorporated is partnering with Eddyville Park and Recreation to hold the Fall into Fitness 5K! Race day is Saturday, October 20 with registration and check in starting at 8 a.m. at the Eddyville City Park. Half of the proceeds will go to United Way and the Other Half to Eddyville Park and Recreation for the city park renovation project.

Terry E. Branstad announced "Volunteer Iowa: A Call to Service"

The goal of the “Call to Service” initiative is to make Iowa the national leader in service and volunteerism by 2015 by focusing on volunteer expansion in Iowa’s most pressing areas throughout the state while focusing on the administration’s goals of becoming the healthiest state in the nation, having the best schools and growing Iowa’s economy.
